Interior of the carpet shop, which unsurprisingly, had many carpets on display. Carpets are very famous in Kairouan
| A structure at the roof of the carpet shop, not sure what it was for but it was quite beautiful

A piece of decoration (?) also found on the roof of the shop
| Also known as the Mosque of Sidi Oqba, the Great Mosque was built in AD 670 (rebuilt in 9th century after its destruction). One of the oldest in Africa and the 4th most important pilgrimage destination after Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem. (125m x 72m)
| The base of the minaret was built in 728 AD and set the pattern for all minarets of its kind. Only 35m high it was quite short comparatively to others I have seen
| Finally the other group arrived, that was the reason why all the wait and coffee break in the morning. We were now 2 hours behind schedule! P.S. I guess this minibus can actually go over floods unless the exhaust pipe is a decoration.

Not long after our departure from Kairouan we stopped and Pawel (tour guide) demonstrated how local bread was made
| This was how it was done, baked inside a stone urn, and everyone bought some, we would have done the same too if only we knew what will come next...
| On the way we saw many instances of rack of lamb being transported around the country... it was only at the end of the trip we knew why
| Coffee break again on the way to Metlaoui
