Vincent Poon :: Ports of Call - Civitavecchia

This is the beginning and the end. Civitavecchia is the Port of Call for Rome, many visitors just passed through this port and went straight to either the ships or to the train station to Rome. In fact there was not much to see here especially in the afternoon after all the crowds have disappeared, we felt like we were walking in a ghost town.

This is a new statue called 'The Kiss' at the port near the beach. This is built on the famous photo when the Americans in New York heard that the WWII was over!
When you see this McDonald, then you know you are near the shuttle bus pick-up point
The shuttle bus station is right behind the Forte Michelangelo
This is our shuttle, make sure you are going for the right ship!

Finally we see the cruise ship. The distance from here (security gate) to the ship is about 2 miles. Make sure you get on a shuttle!
This is the entrance of the departure hall. The porter will take care of your buggage (assuming you have correctly tagged them)
Time to check-in to get your sea pass
First time boarding the Reflection. Hey there were no one/live bands to welcome us!

View of the port of Civitavecchia from the ship. You could see lots of large containers were being loaded to the ship.
After settling down, we decided to check out the surrounding area. The street Corso Centocelle now seems very quiet. Everyone we saw previously at the cafes have all gone to their ships already
On the way we saw some ruins lying beneath the pedestrain pavement
