The Bab as-Siq and the Siq itself (total 2km) is the first test that all Petra explorers must pass if they ever want to set foot to the Ancient City of Petra. It was a great long walk and helped to build up my anticipation of what to expect in Petra!

The Siq is not a canyon carved out by water but is actually a single block that has been rent apart by tectonic forces.
This gives an idea of how high the surrounding rocks are... (200+m)
You have to be careful not to get runover by these carriages...

At some point the path is wide enough for double lane.
Even the kid and the donkey is faster than me....
The Niche Monument, a carved into a free-standng rock, is a small classical shrine. When you see this, you are only 25% completed!
