Vincent Poon :: Masada (4-Sep)

Once used by Herod the Great, this 440m high mountain-top fortress was most famous for the Roman siege in 66AD when the revolting Jews captured this as the last stronghold for 2 years before fallen after all the remaining 1000 defenders committed a mass suicide rather than surrendering.

'Masada Shall Not fall Again' is now a swearing-in oath of the Israeli defense force (IDF)

Arrived in Masada! This was the place where the bus dumped me, now have to walk all the way up to the tourist complex
It is a long way... the weather was surprisingly 'nice' and HOT!
Yes, I had to follow that bend and walk all the way up!

To reach the site at the summit of the mountain one can take the cable car (or else ...)
Without a second thought I dug into my wallet to pay for the cable car... now this is a huge one!
The climb was 900m, and done in 3 minutes!
The climb was really really steep. I was glad I did not have to go via the 'or else' option below
