Vincent Poon :: Church of the Holy Sepulchre (1-Sep Night & 6-Sep Day)

Perhaps the most sacred place for the Christians, the Church was built on the place where Jesus was crucified, buried and resurrected. It was also the last 4 Stations of the Cross (Via Dolorosa). Today the church is jointly administrated by both the Orthodox, the Armenian and the Catholics.

To Christians like us, this place is a must-visit as part of our pilgrimage journey in the Holy Land. To non-believers, it is still a worthy place to visit as you could simply feel the sensation when the pilgrims wept, prayed or jointly sang together.

This is the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, right in the heart of the Christian Quarter. Entrance is through the left, the right doorway was bricked up.
People gathering around an Orthodox priest in the parvis
Just inside the entrance to the church is the Stone of Anointing, which tradition believes to be the spot where Jesus' body was prepared for burial by Joseph of Arimathea.
During the day you could see many pilgrims tried to touch or weep over the stone

A mosaic depiction of Christ's body being taken down from the cross after he has died.
The second part shows Christ's body being prepared after his death. Yes the stone was the Stoneg of Anointing
The last part showed that his body was being carried into his tomb, where he would rise again on the 3rd day
Upstairs led to Calvary (Golgotha), traditionally regarded as the site of Jesus' crucifixion. You could see people kneeled and worshiped before the Altar of Cruxificion where it was built on the hole where the cross was raised.

The Rotunda is located in the centre of the Anastasis, beneath the larger of the church's two domes.
In the center of the Rotunda is the chapel called the Aedicule, which contains the Holy Sepulchre itself. (Place where Christ rose from the dead) Luke 24: 1-2
The place was a bit creepy in the evening, after all the crowds have gone...
