Vincent Poon :: Tour on Nazareth, Galilee & River Jordan (3-Sep)

In order to follow the footsteps of Jesus outside Jerusalem I had joined a 1-day tour to Nazareth, Galilee and River Jordan. Because of the geographical and political reasons, a lot of time was spent on travelling rather than sightseeing. Still, that's probably the best you could get for just 1 day

Basilica of the Annunciation was established at the site where Annunciation took place. (Angel Gabriel told Virgin Mary that she would bear a child named Jesus) They are shown on the top of the facade.
Below the altar is the 5th century mosaic of 2 fishes flanking a basket containing 5 loaves of bread and also the block of limestone on which the miraculous meal was laid.
From the Golan heights, the river passes through Sea of Galilee and into the Dead Sea. A very important source for both Israel, Jordan and Syria
Album: Nazareth

We all know Jesus is from Nazareth and this is the place where the Annunciation took place and where Jesus grew up as a child. This place is more focused on the Holy Family rather than Jesus himself

Album: Sea of Galilee

Next we drove to the region of Galilee. It is here where Jesus did most of the preaching and miracles. It was also the place where Jesus recruited Peter and made him a fisherman of men. Mark 1:19

Album: Yardenit & River Jordan

Finally we arrived at River Jordan. In the Bible this was the place where Jesus was baptized by St. John the Baptist. The original site was thought to be in Qasr el Yahud, which was closed due to political reason until 2011. Yardenit is the replacement and the official site for baptism then. Many Christian pilgrims came here to get baptized.
