Vincent Poon :: West Bank: Valley of the Kings (22nd Apr 2007)
This certainly sounds so grand when I first heard of the name. They say (again!) it is one of the must see in Luxor. However, all I found was a network of empty tombs with all the treasures and the mummies all gone. So, does it worth it then?! With such an intensity of heat, even the most professional tomb raiders would leave them alone.

This is not yet the Valley of the Kings, but most visitors will see them as the first monument as they arrive in the West Bank -- Colossi of Memnon. (18M tall, the only remains of Amenhotep's mortuary temple)
As usual, all the coaches stop just here and you really have to "enjoy" the walk to the entrance at 40C+
Approaching the visitors centre and of course, the shops
There are so called "tuf-tuf", noisy tractors dressed up as trains to ferry visitors between the visitors centre to the tombs... really, really appreciated!

Entrance of the tomb of Ramses IX
KV6: Tomb of Ramses IX. It has a lot of well-preserved paintings including the famous Book of the Dead. (Remember the movie The Mummy?)
Entrance of the tomb of Ramses I. This one you have to go down.
KV16: Tomb of Ramses I. The only interesting thing is a large granite sarcophagus inside.

KV11: Tomb of Ramses III, is one of the longest tombs in the Valley. Broke into another tomb KV10 during the digging process.
There are holes and openings everywhere... could this be one of the undiscovered tombs?
KV9: Tomb of Ramses V/VI
Entrance of Tomb of Ramses V/VI (left) and also Tutankhamun (right)
