Vincent Poon :: Coptic Cairo (18th Apr 2007)
Coptic Cairo is the modern name for the oldest part of the city and also is a haven of quiet, narrow lanes and ancient holy places. Today, besides the tourists, the Coptic Christians (Greek Orthodox) still come here to worship and say prayers.

I am surprised to find an active non-islamic area in an Islamic country but I am even more surprised to find their St. George is also killing Western Dragons here...and I originally thought St. George kills dragon in England only.... well it seems that he must be a worldwide consultant who travelled as far as to the Middle East to kill dragons.

The dragon is definitely not a middle-eastern breed.

After this, we had more alleyways and intersections before approaching the Church of St. Sergius
The entrance of Church of St. Sergius. This was the place where the Holy Family sheltered on their flight of Egypt from King Herod's massacre of all new-born babies.

There are just so many alleyways in this area that getting lost is almost guaranteed.
Ben Ezra Synagogue: This is the site where pharaoh's daughter picked up Moses in the reeds.
Church of St. Barbara, named after an early Christian martyr who was killed by her father for trying to convert him to Christianity.
The Coptic Musuem, which I didn't go becoz of lack of time... but it is recommended by all travel guide books.
