Blue Like Mars
This image shows the west-facing side of an
impact crater in the mid-latitudes of Mars' northern hemisphere. Like
many mid-latitude Martian craters, this one has gullies along its walls
that are composed of alcoves, channels and debris aprons. The origins of
these gullies have been the subject of much debate; they could have
been formed by flowing water, liquid carbon dioxide or dry granular
flows. |

Tuesday 11th May 2010 01:12:28 PM Primitive Humans[ 0 messages] Current events Primitive Humans were not solely African in origin. The Neanderthals populated the Near East and Europe until they vanished about 30,000 years ago. Humans and Neanderthals likely mated 50,000 to 80,000 years ago in the Near East. People of European and Asian descent inherited a small amount, an average 1% to 4% of their genes from the extinct species. It is reported in the recent issue of Science that people spring from "multi-regional" interbreeding of early human species. |

Flying by of Saturn's moon Enceladus Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, The Cassini spacecraft flew by Saturn's moon Enceladus sending images and data of the encounter back to Earth. The spacecraft passed about 120,000 miles over the Saturn’s moon. At its closest point, Cassini flew about 60 miles above the surface of Enceladus. This passage took the spacecraft on its deepest plunge yet through the heart of the plume shooting out from the South Polar Region. Sunlight brightens a crescent curve along the edge of Saturn's moon Enceladus and highlights its misty plume.

Saturday 29th August 2009 11:56:51 AM Just A Few Thoughts [ 0 messages] Current events
In the recent weeks, there were recurrent news of passsing away of public figures, much more frequent than usual, it seems to me. The latest were Senator Ted Kennedy, Dr Harry Fang, Walter Cronkite, Michael Jackson, while the passing away of Ruth Grahm, Tim Russert, Michael DeBakey, Peter Jennings were like a few months ago. Together with others now in their elderly age, these people have formed a large part of the landscape of my generation. Upon wittnesing they either passed away, or seeing them in their eightis or ninties, I can't help reflecting on mortality and life. It's just so clear that a generation is phasing out of the stage, a younger generation of new actors are coming in. Life goes on! Dreams live on, so is human drama and stories! . .

Wednesday 26th August 2009 12:25:33 PM The End Of Camelot[ 0 messages] Current events Ted Kennedy's story is a life story of being human, a story many of us may have also. But his story is told live in the public for fifty years. It is a drama of fame and power, of a privileged family and the last son, of many major personal and family tragedies , of tiredless pursuit of ideal and dream, of courage to fight a good fight, of struggles with prsonal weakness and failures, of drug, crime, charity and national honor......It's an American story of our time, touching, because it's all too human! ~ Stevelau2009 . .

Tuesday 21st April 2009 03:19:13 PM A Star is Falling [ 0 messages] Current events
Earth Day falls on this week, but the Earth may lose this interesting person, reportedly “very ill” at this moment. A victim of Lou Gehrig’s (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), Stephen Hawking is Lucasian Professor of Mathematics in Cambridge, a prestigious post held by Newton. During the years when I was fascinated by astrophysics and cosmology, I have heard many interesting stories about him. He bet on black hole with a year subscription of Playboy, and he would meet Marilyn Monroe rather than Newton. Most woukd agree that he is possibly the greatest living scientist on Earth. One of his great achievements, together with mathematician Roger Penrose, has been to prove that Einstein's General Theory of Relativity means space and time has a beginning in the "Big Bang" and ends in black holes. His book “A Brief History of Time," a layman's guide to the origins of the universe, is a modern classic. There are a few truly bright stars in our generation. This one is falling. .

Friday 17th April 2009 11:36:06 AM Ryan Hall[ 0 messages] Current events
Ryan Hall is looking to win his first Boston Marathon Ryan Hall is a running sensation. At age 25, he was already the second-fastest American marathoner ever -- a title achieved after only three attempts at the distance. He was named "the future of marathon running" by former Olympic champion Stefano Baldini, prior to the disappointing 10th place in Beijing. Here is his record: Marathon Month, Year Time Place London April 2007 2:08:04 7th US Olympic Trials Nov 2007 2:09:02 1st London April 2008 2:06:17 5th Beijing Games Aug 2008 2:12:33 10th In preparing for the Boston Marathon on April 20,2009, Hall has been trying to replicate the demanding, hilly, Boston course while training in Mammoth Lakes, Calif. He is ready physically, as well as mentally, inspired by the sudden death of his runner partner and friend.* *Insid A Bible that goes everywhere with Ryan Hall is a photo of Hall and a fellow runner standing toe-to-toe at the starting line of the U.S. Olympic marathon trials last November in New York City. It was the last race the two men would run together, and it signifies for Hall the importance of living with purpose. The other man in the photo is Ryan Shay, Hall's running partner and friend. Thirty minutes after the photo was taken, Shay, 28, collapsed on the race route and died of a heart attack. “His memory inspires me,” Hall says. “I don't know anyone in the world who trained harder that Ryan Shay. [His death] reminds all of us to seize the opportunity every day.” - July/August 2008 Stanford Magazine Chariot Of Fire - Soundtrack to Blade Runner |

The Appolo 8 astronauts delivered a message from Space: “ In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth………..” Are all of these truth? Are all of these merely wishful thinking? Are all of these just fairy tales? God, our Father in Heaven, have mercy on us! Stevelau2008 |

Wednesday 05th November 2008 07:56:54 AM A Historic Day[ 0 messages] Current events Tuesday November 4, 2008, is going to be a historic day, no matter how you look at it. The world have come a long way in the last 50 years. Human civilization have already advanced to an age of globalization on the one hand, and have been able to leave the Planet Earth for the exploration of Space on the other. Many developments, such as Global economy, Global warming, internet, telecommunication via satellite, GPS, computer technology, energy resources……..have created an environment in which, we as humans, have come to realized that we all live in the same planet, called Earth. Looking back at this Planet Earth from the Moon, and watching the phenomenal changes in deep space through Hubble, Spitz, Chandra and other telescopes, we have gained a different perspective as to what the Universe is , and where we are. The human beings have begun leaving the Planet Earth, just like Columbus preparing for his trip several hundred years ago. Presently, we are way beyond Newton’s Law of Motion; beyond Einstein’s Relativity, and Big Bang. We are confronting with the dark hole, the dark energy………Nobody can slow down our advancing world! Since WWII, for the past fifty years, USA, and its president have become the leader of the western world. They had indeed led the advancing world well. But, USA, as a country, has been weakened in the recent past, and is on a spiral downward turn. The global economy is critically sick, and needed resuscitation just recently. Our planet is in peril. The many challenges facing the new US President, both national and international, are enormous and urgent. After today, the world will enter a new phase of its history. The Americans, and the world, deeply need, and are ready for a great leader. I have voted for Barack Obama, and I have supported him with some donation and my time. I think he offers the best hope we have at this time. I believe he is gifted with the potential to be a great leader. I have written to him saying so. Today, the United States as well as the world have come to a new frontier; the torch of the human civilization has been passed to the younger generation. Can he do it? Only time can tell, and I pray that he can and he will. May God bless our new President, bless Amrerica and bless our World! I am glad I have witnessed this historic day. |

We are in uncharted water and every country is in it together. |

Looks like Bush have applied a pressure dressing on the bleeding patient, who, unfortunately, is dying! Washington Mutual, AIG, Lehman Brothers,Wachovia, Freddie......, all these once upon a time giants, are either gravely ill or have gone! Even GE is in trouble now! Bush will sign off soon (can't wait!), passing the buck to, I think, Obama. Can he save the dying patient like, hey, a surgeon? Nobody have the crystal ball. Obama is something, though! I have signed up for his compaign and donated in the primary. Since then, there are emails from Michelle and him all the time. If invited, I will definitely attend his inauguration ball. Getting my tux ready now, haha! |
