Re: Alien
#1. I will suggest you to get the EF 17-40 L or EF-S 17-85 IS instead of 28-135 IS for general purpose, because of 1.6X crop factor of 350D. Also you need to consider upgrade, EF-S won't be good choise if u will upgrade to cam like 1DS. This is the reason I choose 17-40.
#2. Ef 85 1.8 is not a bad choice for portrait. It s a great lens.

Hi, Michael, I am going to buy lenses for 350D camera. <1> Canon EF 28-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS USM, for general purpose like scenes, nature, family <2> Canaon EF 85mm f1.8 USM, for portrait. Am I looking at the right lenses? Thanks for your comments.

For this photo, i was using a 28-70 2.8 lens. Using a large aperture or tele lens will shorten the DOF, shutter speed is not related.

I want to ask... for this picture, the F-stop should be big ... but I tried to take picture like this but the the depth of view is still not short enough . DOes it relate to the lens itself? I mean, do I have to get a lens that have micro feature in order to dot his? or I can adjust it from the shutter speed?
